Yes you need a PTO pump and at least a 18 gallon tank. That will do the trick.

If you have a front pump, do you have a loader on the tractor and you are just rerouting a few thinks to run the splitter? Sounds like you are setting a relief off somewhere. Most of those pumps on the front of those old Fords have been upgraded at some point to something that can make more pressure than what the plumbing and framework of the loader can handle. So you could get an extra valve with its own pressure relief and keep it separate from the rest of the loader if you have one on the tractor and it should help thinks out.

Most of the front pumps i have seen have a very low GPM and a very low pressure.

the hydraulics are low power .
they will lift and lower the snow pushing blade and thats about it..
all i did was remove the hoses to the blade and build up new ones to the splitter.
in the end i want a stand alone unit that you guys would drool over but i just dont have the cash right now.
but i am trying to get all the right parts.
I am hoping that a pto pump can later be run off a 8 to 12 hp engine but seeing that pto's run slower i may be wrong??
so i might just try get by with this setup till i can do it right.

thanks for the help as i know alot but still have too much to learn.

also i am in canada so i deal with princess auto alot so if there is stuff you know part numbers on post them.

I run my splitter on several tractors , The ford and MF are ok but the John Deere is useless (Front pump):
the only Deere I know much about is a hi pressure low volume unit, very slow.

9N should run a PTO pump without any trouble, as would that Deere.

No trouble it's a 2030 ( UK tractor like 2130)
I'd just like another excuse to sell it and buy some more blue paint:laugh:
