Found this inside of White Oak....what is it ?

Just got done knocking down a White Oak and this was growing inside.....about half afraid to eat it.
Any idea ?

Roots to another plant or some kind of fungus.
The other thing is a can of skoal....awfully clean looking to be found inside a tree??? Weird....

"oak rabbit"?? Never heard that term. I tried google but only came up with oak and rabbit raising information.

Because it was internal it is not subject to wind and rain so may have a varied growth pattern.

Most likely it wouldn't kill you if you ate it, but it might.

It's common around here.....we mushroom hunt various times of year, good eat'n.

Well, maybe not blind but I went from eagle-eye in my younger days to trifocals now. So maybe Mom knew something.
