I'm clearing out around a buddy's field and gravel roads, there are a LOT of what we call River Birch. 5" dia up to 18" dia, & some small maple. He wants the maple, but he said I could have the Birch. The leaves are just starting to pop now, and when cut, the heartwood has sap literally running out of the stump. Other than knowing that it rots pretty quick if stored outside when not split, anything else that I should know? I'd be using it for heat, inside fireplace insert. Getting paid for my time, and using a tractor with a grapple bucket to move the cut trees. Most of the Birch are straight trunked with few branches until you get to the tops - they were growing pretty close together. Some are really crooked and were leaning out to get to the sun tho.

On another note, I got my new Northern Tool catalog in the mail and see that they have Oregon benchtop chain grinders on sale.
