two questions:

1) I have been digging and transplanting small hard woods ( mostly "volunteers"). Ive noted that i have what appear to be 5 distinctly different oaks, and i see more varietys in my local travels. I've become currios about the number and identification of varios oaks indiginous to ohio..any recomendations for sources..

2) am using pines (white, austrian, other?) as a privacy barrier at back of property. ( pines may not have been best choice, don't know) . my question is how should these be pruned to control height and make a dense barier?

I have no idea as to the total variety of Oak species. I know it is in the hundreds. I think there are at least 7-8 varieties on my street alone.
As for the pines, I don't think they would be your best choice for a hedge. Pines tend to want to grow straight up and constantly cutting back the top wouldn't be healthy for the pines or your wallet.
