Help Identifying Wood Species Please

I know one is walnut but i see so many different kinds suck as curly, feathered, etx. Can anyone help me determine what this slab would be labeled as and would it make an okay gunstock? Also i have another tree where i cut the crotch. I thought it was walnut originally but im thinking an oak possibly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

most certainly resembles all the walnut slabs I have! You said there are two slabs, but from the pictures you took, it’s a bit difficult to tell which is which.

Also, differentiating walnut from oak is easy! Look at the eng grain, walnut will be quite tight, where oak will be much more “loose grained” or porous (would be more accurate)...

@Rick4283 secomd pic is hard to tell what it is (from that pic) if it’s a third piece of wood, or just a different angle on the “crotch” of the larger piece. Every other pic screams walnut, the endgrain and smell are always the dead giveaway for myself. I’m a couple hours south of you (NWFL, just north of Destin, FL). I also do a little woodworking and laser engraving, if you want that stock checkered or any other texturing...
