Help with identifying this??

while taking apart my Makita 6421 yesterday and and removing the cylinder and piston I noticed this sitting in front of carb near the intake boot. I don’t remember seeing it when removing the other parts. It’s the little black bushing in the pic with the decomp. I included the decomp to give you an idea of size and scale. Thanks for your help!!

Its similar bit that bushing/spacer is longer and accounted for.

Just looked at my 6401 and don't see anything like that around the carb or muffler. I was thinking it might be for the brake handle on the starter side but mine has a shoulder on it.

Did you remove chain brake?

Well I've jade many 7900's aboard and I do not recall seeing that, however I have never fully disassembled the chain break, so it belongs to the saw, I'm going with the chain break.

I have no idea about this saw, I just looked at the ipl.

I believe it just goes over part of the mechanism to keep crud out. Perhaps it holds a little bit of oil also and keeps things from rusting in there. Not really certain

I think your right. That makes sense and maybe cushions the action of that area also. But lubed and kept cleaner makes sense.
