I have three Hemlock trees planted approximately 6 years ago. Only one is healthy and growing. The others are bare of live limbs on the East side and growth has been minuscule if at all. What can be done to get these trees going? How do you prune Hemlock trees? The lower limbs have spread way out and are lying on the ground.

Hemlock as a rule like moist soil and partial shade to produce a cool environment. If you have them in direct sunlight on dryer soil, they are not planted where they want to be. If they are not healthy and happy now, do not prune them as they are using all their foliage to hang on to live in the spot they are in. Give them some shade, or water and see what comes along.
