Anyone have some sage wisdom on running an 026 at about 8500 feet? The high speed jet is fixed, so I'm sure it's running a bit rich. I felt like it didn't have quite the power I expected...
Thanks.

BTW. It's a new saw, and the dealer insisted it was a Farm Boss, it's an 026 with an 18" Farm Boss bar. I replaced the chain with a full chisel and the performance is much more to my liking.

Thanks for nothing, EPA

The high speed jets are non-adjustable on more and more new saws these days thanks to non-thinking idiots at EPA. If the dealer doesn't have a way to adjust for the altitude difference, you may need to replace the carb with one from an older model that has the adjustment screw for the high end jet.
See if your dealer can get Stihl to provide the carb for free. You never know untill you ask.

damn epa. it helps to prevent idiots from running their saws too rich or lean but it limits the adjustment that you can get with them. damn tree huggers

I'm surprised they dont offer some sort of high altitude kit like they do for two stroke sleds. If you dont change carbs keep an eye on the screen in muffler so it doesnt plug with carbon

Actually they do make a high altitude kit for that saw. Its really not a kit its just a different jet. I know of someone that probably stocks that part. Where in colorado do you live? Near 285?

i agree w/homelite 360 what about all of these space shuttles or jets...look at how much polution they put out but that is ok becuas ethe goverment big wigs want space missions.....look at how much exhaust just one space shuttle puts out.....every person in the world could start the chain saw and run them wide open for a year and still not put out that much smoke....................who cares about a little more exhaust from a chain saw they dont put out taht much even if they run a tad richer

Thanks for the input.
Turns out my problem was a bad chain to start with. That made the saw cut slowly, and eventualy the air filter probably got a little clogged too.
I have a new yellow label chain and I'm happy.
Stihl does have a high altitude jet, but I operate right at the margin, so I held of on putting it in yet.
I'm in Colroado Springs, but cut my trees outside Deckers and West Creek.

BTW> I agree that the EPA regualting chainsaws is absurd. When will they set up emissinos inspection stations? You might be interested to know, however, most of the "smoke" on a shuttle launch is water vapor - steam! They use pure hydrogen and oxygen for fuel in the big main engines.

pollution(real source)

  :blob2: I thought that the pollution problem was caused by "bovine flatulents". Opps excuse, me pardon that I need that sensitivity traning they told me about in school. Sorry it's just that these enviro wackos really get under my nails.

That's funny until you see the $122,000 worth of steel trussed tents the DEM made my dairy farmer friend put up  Seems his cows were crapping in the field, field is next to stream, stream leads to water authority aquifer, DEM gets involved, nothing good comes of that  They haven't told him yet who's going to teach the cows to crap on the concrete, though

obviously sarcastic????

uhh excuse me!! my message was a tragic atempt at showing how ridiculous it is that we blame cow (pardon) farts and whatever gas as a serious damage to the environment. My parents sold the farm because the government(Barbara Streisand) you know what I mean got too thick. All I have left is a small orchard and my arbor business. I am packing my bags because in a couple of years I will have to flee this state because these wacko's will make it even more impossible for me to continue my business. Already I have had to let three workers go because the government wanted so much paperwork to keep them employeed I had to let good workers go. If you have faced similar problems with your business why not sound off. It sure has made me feel better. Even though I know I will soon have to abandon nearly 80 years of family business and my livelihood for 25 years.

Tazzman, What exactly are they looking for from your employees? This seems fairly excessive. California seems to be tops in Control. Sounds like socialism to me. Thats what the democrates want is to control you. Unfortunately, you live in a very democratic state. They say they are democrates, but actually if you look at the definition of socialism it says the present democrate all over it. People need to read into what goes on in the government a lot more. Since most of my readers on arboristsite are small businesses they should be republicans also. Unfortunately, most dont know the difference. You might as well pack up, I agree. California will never get better. You are one guy. We might feel different down the line when farming and orchards are no longer around. These environmental wackos need your orchard! Good luck. I support you.
