Hello all, picked up what looked like a good condition Homelite 8800 last weekend. Got to pulling the muffler the other day and was less than thrilled with what I found, its scored up really, really bad.

Definitely need a piston, checked the tradin post here and looked all over the web but couldn't seem to find one anywhere. Couldn't find any seals either. Not sure if it needs the seals yet but it looks pretty obvious it leaned out, potentially from the seals or intake boot. I'd like a new cylinder too, haven't pulled it to see if it can be saved at all, a new cylinder would be nice too.

I'd love to fix it up but I can't find any of the parts other than the intake boot and cylinder base gasket and that's it! Any help would be great, really would be a treat to fire that saw up. Oh it came with a pretty wimpy 18" bar too, would definitely prefer a much longer bar for it. That I can potentially find but a nice relatively inexpensive used one would be cool.

Homelite 8800 pistons and cylinders are VERY hard to come by. This is partly because the Homelite MP88 concrete saw also used the very same piston and cylinder. It might be years (or decades) before a set comes up for sale, and most of the time they want more than the saw is worth. Cylinder can be replated if necessary, but I know of no source for pistons.

Hi there is the Homelite DM54 concrete same as the MP88 i have a cylinder and piston from DM54 cylinder looks good the piston and look okay but there is a little piece broken on the bottom skirt it should still work

They are not the same, Homelite 540/DM54 used open transfer cylinder, 8800/MP88 used closed transfer, muffler and intake are also different. Cylinder will bolt on, but would also need the other parts to make the switch.

Thank you very much for that clarification, I was looking around for a DM54 but I think I'll stick to the 8800/MP88. Only one I could find so far is probably junk.
