My flywheel was tighter than any that I had delt with. I made up some reinforced puller bolts screwed into and tightened at full depth into the flywheel pawl pivot bolt holes. I put as much tension on it that I dared with my puller and used a high temperature hot air gun to heat the flywheel then sprayed 50/50 ATF and acetone between the shaft and flywheel. It finally popped after several heat cycles.

I am working on another Homelite now, it’s going to need a little more work. It’s a gear drive, so I think I’ll go ahead and fix it.

Now after the previous post I feel inadequate posting about this lowly XL12 that I got running after messing with it off & on for almost 3 1/2 yrs.The last time I worked on it I just couldn't get it going the way I wanted,so left it sit for almost 3 yrs.I finally got it running good yesterday & when I took the pics today I fired it up again on the 3rd pull..

I took the XL12 out cutting today for the first time.It ran great,but wanted to keep 4 stroking while in the cut.When I stopped to refuel I turned the hi in about 1/8 turn & the lo out the same.Wow,the saw really came alive! Chips were flying all over the place,,Lol.I'll sharpen the chain again because I was in really dirty black walnut that was on the ground for about 3 1/2 yrs.,& I'll take the rakers down a tad too.
 
Anyone knowledgeable in Homelite numbers here? Trying to figure this one out.

From the research I've done so far on this saw, I'm guessing the intake boot wore out and cracked, causing a huge air leak. Will know that one for sure when I have the time to take things apart, hopefully in the next few days.

However, I noticed something odd when looking over the official specs for the 550. The normal compression is supposed to be in the 125-150 PSI range, but when I tested the compression I get about 182 with 10 pulls, cold saw.
This is supposedly the level of compression seen in the 450/650 saws, which seems strange.
Any thoughts on what's going on here? Did I get a 450 in disguise? Hopefully these numbers can shed some light.

Ernie it looks to be a Homelite 26LCS and the price varies depending on condition.
$50-$100
These are the 20 MCS, the 1st gas powered Homelite, yours is 2nd.

New 123. Hopefully it’s ready to rip besides the cracked rear handle. The guy says he has a parts saw for me.

I’ve wanted a saw from this family for a long time. A couple years ago, I paid a guy down by Minneapolis to build a XL-103 for me but got the saw back in pieces a year and a half later with a bunch of excuses. Not going to name names but BTW don’t send your saws to any saw porters in Minnesota....

I love my XL-123 and it is a go to when I'm out cutting.
