Just got this homelite chainsaw from my father in law that his dad bought new when he was a kid, question is what year is it, can I get parts for it, and any kind of info anyone has on these, I would like to get it running for my father in law, maybe do some reminiscing with that old saw, maybe get some more stories, best I got now is his dad bought it for cutting holes in the ice for spearing, thanks

Ace, based on the serial your saw appears to have been built at the end of 1979. These are quite good saws, very well made, there were millions of them so parts are still widely available. Mine is a 1974, sat for at the very least 10 years. I cleaned up the plug, put some fuel in it and it fired right up. Fun fact, in "today's dollars" this is a ~$1300 saw.
