Yes. Ones made after 1987 all have the Phelon electronic ignition. So do newer saws have these already or were these only available as a retrofit to the blue coil saws?

Is there any way to decode by serial number like you can on Huskys or just take off the recoil and have a look?Yes. Ones made after 1987 all have the Phelon electronic ignition.
Well that isn't bad at all, knowing that it will not be subject to future failure like blue ones. If you get a free saw that is clean or one with sentimental value it is well worth it!View attachment 618853
Strange you should ask, just bought one last month.
Like anything else, price can be all over. Some sellers trying to get top dollar, others much more reasonable. Of course it never hurts to make a offer.
pioneerguy600 do you just drain your collector saws leaving nonethe mix in lines and carb or do you run them dry?
Nice!blue prestolite to china husky 268 [& others] coil conversion. pioneer farmlite. coil was $7. usd on feepay. starts/runs good. haven't tried on homie yet, but may work.

One other question. Just to confirm, points vs blue coil vs phelon all use a different flywheel, correct?
Yep

Just for the record, that is not my listing [emoji3]

So the phelon and blue ignition modules use the same flywheel?Points flywheel and electronic flywheel, one won't work with the other.
Steve
Nice!
IIRC you need to fabricate a bracket to mount the Husky coil on. Which may be above the pay grade of many saw owners.
But still wondering how to set timing on a fabricated retrofit. Can a timing light be used on a saw if a 12v battery was used?
No. They are different. That’s why kit comes with a new rotor. So the phelon and blue ignition modules use the same flywheel?
