Homelite XL Flooding Cyclinder

I was given a Homelite XL a year or so ago, was looking for something to do the other day so I pulled it out and was seeing if it would start. I pulled about 8 times and she popped. Would not start, pulled plug and gas was running out of cylinder. Wondering if someone would know what would cause this and how to fix it. Not the greatest mechanic but looking for something to do. Thanks

I would be pulling the carb off, take it apart, clean it and put a carb kit in it. You should also check the fuel line(s) and replace them if they're not in good shape.
If you haven't done that before, there are good manuals on line for Tillotson and Walbro carbs.
