12 years ago we lost lot of trees because of Oak Wilt and had to cut them down. Several of the tress that were infected survived and now it seems 3 of the survivors are getting worse and about to half to cut one down that is hanging almost over the house. The other 2 are big and need to save if it is at all possible.

Bah,
You cant even begin to stop oak wilt by cutting it down.
Just the shiz blowing in the wind will F you.

Treat it and let it rot in place if you can.
Nature has a much better handle on this than humans.

"But bugs carry it!"

Yep... So des the wind.

This is why I am not an arborist.

This is why I can win bids over arborists 99.999% of the time.

I mean get real!
Go ahead and get a 90' tall baggie for your tree to quarantine it. In the meantime I cut down ten and made a shizton more than the 40k the average arborist gets.

Have oak wilt on my land and neighboring state land. Trees will be fine and within 3 weeks turn brown and drop their leaves. DNR has a 7 foot blade like root cutter on a dozer. Trying to slow it by cutting root system of affected areas. You must cut roots touching affected trees as stated above, chemical treating by tapping root base is too expensive for number of trees I have and treating must be repeated. They recommend not cutting or pruning trees until after July 15th, later the better. Damaging trees is a way of spreading by insects. I lost 9 last year and have 4 bare trees now. Problem here is Gypsy moths are back and stressing trees. Red oaks are most affected and white oaks are more resistant to wilt. I will start cutting around September. Kind of sickening to watch.

Those Gypsy moths havedwreaked havoc in my end of the state. More firewood at my father-in-laws house than I can handle.

Yeah. White Oaks got hammered a bit this side too. Not to much by me but Roxbury had a couple bad spots. Cheshire is the worst close to me. Lots of whites and even the reds died. Gotta keep hoping for wet springs to keep them in check!

I sprayed a lot of Acelepryn the last couple of years and it worked great. Pricey, but low tox and it works.

We pay for spraying in our property tax, but they did not mass count our area last year, so did not spray here this year. Wife called and asked to be counted this year.

I can't remember the members' names, but they had some information regarding the infestation in Northeast Connecticut. My FIL is in Brooklyn, CT and his land got annihilated. I posted a couple of pics but will try to get more when I get a chance.

Is it possible to have the wilt stay dormant and comeback years later? The trees have the scars on them from 12 years ago but it seams like the damage to the bark is changing somewhat here are some pics more to follow it’s on the 3 surviving trees that had it 12 years ago there is like 7 tress total the three are sharing the root system with
