How To Start Modded Saw

For the record, I am not complaining about the saw nor the builder.

Newly modded MS460
Port, Polish, Muff Mod, Timing Advanced.
205 PSI compression (tested)
When the motor is cold, choke all the way, compression release in, pull til it farts.
Couple times I thought I broke my wrist.

If I give another pull after it farts at full choke it seems to be flooded.
If I go to half-choke after first fart it seems to want a

There seems to be no rhyme nor reason to a good sequence to start it.

Suggestions?

Yes dont choke it after it pops take the choke all the way off at the first sign of it popping and pull hard!

Yes you flooded it do as Lone Wolf said. You may need to pull the plug and clear the fuel out first.

I drop start my saws WFO but I cant advise him to do that.

No I dont have a modded saw. Clean the plug and try without the choke after it pops.

Starting a nodded saw is no different than a stock saw, other than the nodded saw will have more compression.

I used to use the choke till the engine pops. Now I shut the choke off after 2 or 3 pulls even if it didn't pop. They all start with three more pulls after turning the choke off (or to halfway on a Stihl). Not choking till it pops means less chance of flooding it.

No choke after that first cough.
It's telling you fuel has reached chamber.
At that point,.Choking will effectively spill in too much without a good mixture... not enough air... she suffocates and plug wets up.

That’s what I do on my big saws. I find a big log and rest the tip on it. But I don’t advise others to do it. If your not used to running big saws it may get away.

Another thing is to get the piston to top dead center than pull nice and hard. This allows the reciprocating assembly to build some momentum/energy to overcome compression with enough rpm to generate a nice strong spark.

On the old 500 CC bikes that were hard to start you really benefited from doing that.
