I buy the old school 2D flashlights and 6V Lanterns then swap the bulb for an LED upgrade. It's amazing how long they will run.

Growing up in rural Maine we learned the value of maintaining a well stocked pantry, lights, candles and heat to fend off winter. We may not be eating gourmet foods but got plenty not to starve for a long time.

This storm still has a while to make up its mind, which way to turn, and who it will effect. For now I'll mostly be doing my prepping with The Good Book and ask that if it's in you to lift up those about to be in harm's way as well as the first responders and volunteers helping in the soon affected communities.

Some of the new LED Maglites are pretty powerful and have impressive runtimes, and I would like to have one. But I follow Thoreau's advice when it comes to emergency planning: "Simplify! Simplify!" I have a bunch of good AA lights, one that takes 4xAA and puts out 1000 lumens and can stay on for three-months on it's lowest setting, and a bunch of good Japanese rechargeable batteries. Many lights and one common battery. Mind you, I do have a Rayovac Indestructible 3xD cell lantern. It has a 15' drop rating, lasts 200 hours, and it floats. My kind of lantern.

Good luck to you and everyone down south.

For some, that could be a real possibility.

You ever lost everything you own? I've heard that quite a few in TX. have.

when your home is under 6 feet of water, what's all that food and beer going to do for you then?

you'll end up in a FEMA shelter with everyone else and they wont let you bring your guns in there

That's why people are advised to evacuate. Take your beer and guns with you.

If I lived in an area prone to hurricanes, I'd definitely live in a two-story house.
