After seeing that all of the replacement pistons are cut away in that area I used my dremel to make a relief divot in the skirt of the piston to clear the boss. I practiced on the old piston first till it cleared then I copied it to the good piston. I smoothed all the edges so nothing would catch and so I could avoid any stress cracks. Better to hack on the cheapest part than the expensive one. I blued both the case and the skirt, assembled the cylinder and turned it over by hand; no more hitting. I then put a socket on the crankshaft nut and spun the crank with my impact driver just to see if turning it at high-speed might cause it to touch. Still nothing hitting. I think I should be good. Fingers crossed.
