My 371 XP sits un-used most of time. The 550XP is no my favorite saw.

I go to fire it up and it only runs with the choke pulled out. The white smoke it blows out is amazing? I'm guessing I have had a seal failure and or am pulling in bar oil into to combustion chamber too?
I've never had this happen to my Husky's ... obviously :(

Thanks for any advice. I'm guessing a Might Vac test kit is in the work?

drain and rinse out the oil tank, run it with out bar and if it clears up its the case gasket.

With the bar oil removed and rinsed I should have no white smoke? I started this saw with fresh fuel so unless the carb is the problem I'm guessing a seal failure.
The clutch area is really wet.

I'll report my finding.

Thanks everyone.

I miss my old 371. They are good ole saws. I want to buy another....

Also sniff the fuel for diesel odor. I have heard of fuel suppliers trucks accidently making mix mistakes with types of fuels, and gas cans being used for diesel with a couple inches left in the bottom can.
Some diesel in your gas make a pretty big smoke cloud too.
I get cutoff saw in regularly that reek of diesel.
