I just bought a used 550XP and the starter cover has a couple broken grates/teeth just above the H on the sticker. Not sure how critical it is to replace that, but I'm also looking for someone to give this used saw a tune-up (and replace the cover). Is that something you can do? I'm in Harpswell - where in Maine are you located? (I hope it's ok to ask such a question on this forum.)
I do have a new recoil on hand, the only tune up items on these are a plug, fuel filter and air filter. Unfortunately time is not my friend with 3 little ones. If you are somewhat mechanical it's a really easy job.
No question that 3 little ones would be way more fun than working on a chainsaw. Thanks for the encouragement - there's more wrong than a tune-up cuz the starter cord pulls all jerky and uneven. I'll take it apart and see if those missing teeth from the cover are in there somewhere.
