Food for thought, I recently picked up a new looking hardley run husky 268 Xp. I noticed it ran great then it wouldn’t start. Then it ran again. Weird. The ignition switch had three detents. Off, off, run. I guess it’s broke inside. I’m thinking that’s why the po didn’t use it that much. Funny I move it to on from off she no run, one more click and she runs.

Advice,,, on my first 2100 restoration. This was a parts saw that was stuck by a repair in the recoil housing. They hit the flywheel with a screw/nut trying to fix a crack in the recoil housing. I got a decent saw to work on.

Everything is going in brand new except for the cases, crank, plastics. I have the jungle muffler louver screens, with the top port too. I’m on the fence about porting it and adding the muffler. In installing the four screws that hold the jungle setup I’m thinking about using nut serts rather than sheetmetal screws.

What do you think? Port it, do the ported muffler, plug the govenor, advance the timing? The ported 2100 we ran at the fair was a animal.

Music to my ears today my son fired up my new, very low hour husky 385xp man she sounds awesome. Can’t wait to fix the other saws. I have two 285’s that have good compression they just need a little tlc.

Looks like the launch pad will be busy all winter.

Here’s my 2100 work in progress. I promised you pics. Everything is being rebuilt on this one. I’m setting it up for 404” chain too. I’m one step closer.

Has to be one of the best saws ever to work on, Way ahead of its time.
I sold one of these to a mate of mine he is now a believer.

All these big block husky saws were well made but the 2100 is a beast. I like the 480cd, 285cd, 2100cd, 2101xp. Luckily I picked up a oem husky 285 cylinder kit. I have two 285’s on working on soon

Here’s my progress today, I’m slow but moving forward. Some pics show the 2100 case assembly tools and the crank seal installation tool. What a difference between the old crankbearings in the case and the new crankbearings in the case it’s so smooth.

Going to lightly port the cylinder and add the lower louver setup to the front of the muffler that has the upper port so it’s ported too.

My son fired up my 575xp and my 353 today cutting up some fallen dead wood. Music to my ears it’s great to smell some two stroke today. I figured we better get some juices flowing through them rather then letting them sit on the shelf.

I’m thinking my bigger saws will get gone through and then sit till I get someone to fell my big trees I need a Climber this fall.

There’s two bolts in slots and one bolt is a binder holding it from turning, see if you can gently pry up with a screwdriver from the opening next to the cylinder and case? Or very carefully take a screwdriver and hammer and try to turn the ignition in the screw slot. Lightly it may break free.

Picked up another husky 285 today. Weird it has a 2100 lower case with twin bar oil ports. The handle is the 285 with one oil barb, Came with the lower assembly. This one is parts only.

Finally ran my new toy. Ran absolutely awesome in some big oak. Need to get some video of it running. I'm very impressed with the saw! Too bad it's insanely hot out!

The older 180/280/380/480/285/295/298/1100/2100/2101 saws with similar looking crankcases but some aren’t exactly the same I call bigblock saws. You don’t see the crankcase that much on the newer saws it’s covered with plastic.

The older bigblock 285 is a bigblock saw.

My new to me 285 parts saw showed up today. Something isn’t right, the crankcase tag says it’s a 285, the crankcase has two openings for the double Oiler for the shorter and longer bars but the pump in the handle is missing? Yet the case has both Oiler nipples and the handle has only one, but the case is marked 285, confusing.

Of course another parts saw with compression don’t these big saws get used? The piston looks good another running saw if I replace the missing parts. I hate to box up the left over parts after I get what I need. When it can be brought back to life.

Well after using my husky today I've decided I need the large dogs on it. The small one just isn't working well in this oak. Now part of it is due to the sections being so large but I'll probably look to get a set and try them.
