Hypsometer/Rangefinder recommendations

Hey do you guys have any recommendations for something to measure tree height with good level of accuracy? I run into a lot of residential felling scenarios where it would come in handy. I cant seem to find anything on any of the regular tree gear sites.

For $450 it doesn't sound bad.

For $450 it doesn't sound bad.

Haglof Vertex's are super nice but a little pricey. They do the trig in the unit, are more accurate, account for slope, etc. I use mine regularly for both arboriculture and forestry applications, one of the best tools I have.

A clinometer is a less costly way to do the same thing. The difference between that and the Haglof Vertex is that you need to measure distance from the tree and account for slope yourself. Both are very accurate when used correctly.
