ID these logs?

Can someone tell me what kind of tree this was? Tree is in Tennessee.

Thanks for all the replies. This tree was blown over (roots and all) in one of the storms. I hated seeing it as I've watched this tree grown over the years as it's next to an area we deer hunt. It'll make for some good firewood.

The easiest way to tell the species of a tree is to look at the leaves on it or on the ground under it as well as look at the fruit/seeds of the tree for positive identification.
Some wood looks an awful lot like other woods so it can be hard to tell from a cut log or bark pic.
Some bark is easy to ID but some are so close and can vary with age and climate and location that it makes it very hard to ID with a pic alone.
Best way is by the leaf and the seeds.
