Hello. I just bought a house and there is a rather sad looking tree in front yard. Can anybody help me identify what type of tree it is, what kind of damage it looked like it sustained and how to care for it? The lower small branches look to be budding this week but the branches off the last remaining big limb do not. Do trees bud all over at the same time, i.e. is that last big limb dead?

Thanks,
Daniel

It is a Siberian elm.

Doesn't have a long-term future...will keep falling apart. Maybe not in the next 5 years, but probably not there in 15-20 years.

They make a mess when the wind blows. I'd personally replace it sooner than later so your new tree can be a nice big tree in 10 years.

Make sure it is not in the city right of way before you remove it!
