Is this a tree sapling if so what kind?

Maybe Ash. You need to wait for more mature leaves to be sure.

Agreed...need more time. My bets:
Hickory, walnut, or Ailanthus

If you gently dig around it you can figure out if it is hickory or walnut if it sprouted from a nut. If it is Ailanthus it will have a distinct stink when you crush a leaf.

I hope it is Hickory, but I have none around here but I do have a Walnut tree in my yard, thanks a lot for the input can't wait to see what they are I have three of them growing in my beds and I would love to have some free trees.

Looks like walnut to me. I have one and it seems squirrels bury nuts in all the wrong places since I’m always having to dig up saplings sprouting up against the house. The tree is 40 yards from the house.
