My maple has this "split" in the bark and I'm wondering if this is something to be worried about. I'm a novice in this particular subject and would greatly appreciate your input. Please let me know if you have any questions.

You have some obvious dry rot at the bottom and the tree could be rotted/hollowed out on the inside which may go up as much as 3-5 feet. What is the potential outcome of a split or break caused by wind, snow storm? It might stand for 20-30 more years. Might want to have a professional evaluate it.
