G'day lads.
A friend of mine gave me this cheap Chinese chainsaw a few days back. It was new, but he had purchased it about a year ago.
It sold new for $99au.
That's about $68us.
.
Anyhow, I fired her up yesterday and ran a tank of fuel through it. It was definitely NOT powerfully, but I couldn't believe how nice it ran.
So I thought,
As a group, let's work this bad boy over, and make it go.
I basically DON'T care if we wreck it. Seriously.
It should be a fun thing to do as a group forum.
Anyhow, I'm not sure what it is cloned from.
But specs are,
.
ROSS 38cc
1.2kw lol!
Stock squish = 1.27mm
Stock compression 150psi.
.
Check out the small muffler outlet.

It’s a 37cc engine. No wonder you don’t think it’s powerful. About the only thing you can use it for is small branch stuff.

Start with the farmer john stuff - delete the base gasket and if the piston doesn’t hit at TDC should give better compression. If it does hit use a thin gasket material like a coke can. Open up the muffler outlet. 80% of your gains are right there.

True, and I don't want it or need it. I just thought it would be fun to see how far we can push it. I will do a pictorial of what we all decide to do to it. And some before and after timed cuts

Zenoah is a Japanese brand of chainsaw, high quality well built saws but not very common in the US.
I never heard about them until I started looking up stuff on forums.
PS I have the Chinese versions of the bigger Zenoah 50cc saw.

Looks like a good candidate, cat muffler is always a nice sign indicating non-strato design. That in itself indicates room for port work.
I’m assuming it’s a car muffler cause of the size of it

Well I am not sure at this stage. I will open it up soon. But I wanted to make a video of some timed cuts before we have at it.
But in general, Australia doesn't seemed to be held by the same rules as the US when it comes to mufflers. I just recently cut open my new Makita DCS500 only to find it had a normal style muffler. So I welded it back together and just made the opening a bit larger. Worked well
