How much do you figure labor in installing a lightening protection system in a tree. I can do it, and understand materal costs, but how much to charge for labor? I have to give a bid next week for a tall pondarosa pine.
Could someone give me a ball park figure what it cost to install in a tree. I know there are many Variables, but there has to be a market value price.
Any advice would be Appreciated . Thanks.

your x 2 team climber rates x expected hours needed plus a % for intellectual property and dont forget to advise customer will need the system checked for continuity each ## years & $ cost of warning signage place on tree to advise no touch earthed system.

Components need to be UL96 compliant which are more rugged than just regular grounding components.

Harger Lightning & Grounding has excellent technical assistance and if you still need to purchase may be your 1-stop shopping & design/build resource.

As a side note, most people think this is all about protecting the tree, that's partly true but where will that tree fall after it gets struck and will it catch fire?

The last big installation of lightning protection in trees that I've seen was at Jefferson's Monticello. The trees were venerable but the structure irreplaceable.

Something to consider adding into any contract is that without "total system bonding" a lightning strike can reenter adjacent building through other underground infrastructure and that the installation "may require additional work from a qualified electrician". CYA...

Ah well okay then. I went to a meeting in August to present on Regenerative Pruning. It was a good group; active; you might consider uncorking that wallet....

Well after reading up and asking questions i completed my first lightning protection job. So far its payed very well as far as amount of time it took. I have 3 more tree to do yet. This one was the biggest and most spread out.20171113_161708.jpg
It had been struck before and i did a lot of deadwood removal20171113_133716.jpg
Curiosity enough it was struck before about 3/4 of the way up and not at the highest points.
I learn the hardest part of this job was putting in the ground cable and ground rod. Had to dig a ditch 15 feet through rocky soil but got lucky, after using a post hole digger to get 2 ft down the 8ft ground rod was easily driving down its full length.
