Ive never found any saws around me other than a mini. But yes, ive watched prices on facebook marketplace and ebay soar upwards over the last couple years. I do think its because of youtube and people on there showing off the capability of the old macs. In particular ive watched billy ray use pioneers and saw a spike in prices there as well. Hes popular.

Yup internet is good for ruining all kinds of things. Every yard sale should net us our yearly income.
The same can be said for Swedish and German saws, broken battered 100s of dollars. Its a damn good thing MoPar never made a chainsaw that thing would be worth its weight in gold!

Here's today's projects. Rebuilt the recoil and the carb on my 7-10. The fuel filter was MIA and the carb screen was full of debris from the tank, it was also totally missing the metering side gasket. Amazing that it ran as well as it did.
I took the 24" bar off the 7-10 and swapped it with the 20" I had stuck on Scrap Heap. I also noticed that these silver streak bars are not properly drilled for oiling on these Macs in spite of being listed as fitting so I remedied that as well. I also added some dogs to Scrap Heap thanks @Goinwheelin. I will have to hit you up for some more. 20210124_161904.jpg20210124_161855.jpg20210124_161808.jpg20210124_161744.jpg

Whats great about this is i can do some measuring to compare to my spare 700 cylinder.

I want to know if the bridged 7-10 is really just a points 700.

I only have 1 open transfer 7-10 and is pretty scored up but in saying that it has way more compression than this did

Well Jethro, you beat me on what you paid for your 700 - $35.I got mine for $45,but had to put a chain brake on it.I had 1 laying around here,so it didn't cost me anything more to put it on .All I did was change out the electronic module, put a new fuel filter in it,& set the needles & I had a runner. It even came with a nice Windsor bar & chain. That was 2 1/2 yrs.ago.I've seen what 700s go for on Feebay & they aren't cheap.

Slightly off-topic but are 10-series Macs becoming a “hot item” near any of you guys? A buddy who practically is a used saw dealer and sends all the yellow saws he gets my way said he’s had people asking him about 10-10’s because “Billy Bob Something-or-other uses them on Youtube” and I was wondering if that was happening near any of you.
Buckin' Billy Ray - weird guy, but I like his videos and he has good chain sharpening pointers. That said I tend to skip through a lot of his ramblings, but he's a big Mac guy (although he runs multiple brands) and arguably has had some effect on the public desire for Macs. Not a bad thing; keep them popular and in the market instead of in the landfill.

Billy got me into Mac's. I had a little 310 and then watched him and went wow I need a real Mac. I hope it keeps them out of the landfill too. I also hope it leads to some new parts too. Perhaps it will Perhaps it won't

I would hazard guess that its a timing related change in the ports or in the cranks key?
Only because I run my 10-10A saws for firewood and dropping small 8-14" trees ( crazy I know, when I have a bunch of bigger saws) but whenever I have had to install an electric chip in one I absolutely notice a change in performance, rpms and torque . Whatever advanc they put in the chips is a go sweet spot for the 10-10 I've found. I've been half tempted to try one in my PM60 but it was such a SOB to get straight with the points I'm probably not gonna mess with it.
Compression is the only other factor that I can think of if all things being the same.

So I was out and about on the weekend with the wife and kids and decided to go into a 2nd vintage shop while the wife was next door shopping for clothes.
I was just about to walk out when I spotted this. A whole folder full of old McCulloch original IPL manuals, Owners manuals, Chainsaw chain maintence manaul, warranty forms, Start up instructions for the dealer to customer form, and lots more.

IPL's included were for the following saws, 1-51, Pro Mac 570, 790, 610/650, Pro 10-10 Automatic and Super Pro 125

Owners Manuals for 1-51, Pro Mac 10-10, 790, 620/650, SP125

Got the whole lot for $15 AUD. I would say this collection must of come from a Chainsaw dealer somewhere.

Cheers Justin

Did Someone Say 10 Series?

Just a bay find that I HAD to share. (oiler trouble?)

But back to Billy Ray- Yes I do kinda blame him for ruining the market for 10 series saws. (macs in general really)
I don't despise the guy, I like him, his knowledge and passion for giving older equipment a second shot... But Damn It Man!

In the five years of looking I've never found a 10 series saw locally and I don't expect that to change. But online I'm looking at Mini Macs and other Mcculloch saws that aren't worth the price people are asking for them. Even pawn shops (that use ebay to estimate the value of every item in the shop) is getting ridiculous. It might be wishful thinking, but maybe in time the prices will settle back down?
