Where to find question....

Got a 28" mcculloch bar not long ago. The tip is replaceabe. Currently 3/8 pitch. The tip is also chipped bad and the sprocket worn. My question is where is a good source for the new tips? The bar gauge is .050. Nice bar just needs a new tip. Its a 3 rivet like the old windsors. I think it is made by windsor actually. But where do you guys buy new 3 rivet tips at? Thanks in advance. I know it's a common saw, but neighbor texted me today and said he left me a saw out in front of my garage. So I guess sometimes saws can find you when others know your a Mac guy.

Anyways for a run of the mill average 10-10a this one looks real clean. Did a quick check over it, put a little mix down carb throat and it popped on first pull. I think the later ones had the brake, but I really only see them without a brake, so I'm not sure on when they had them.
But that is a slick looking saw! The "elusive 10 series" for some people.
You've got a real cool neighbor, and at least there weren't any "porch pirates" around.
 
I have a black top 10-10 with a brake. Came like that as far as I can tell. Mac started with the brake in 1976 I think so a fair bit of them had it.

The brake was optional before then yeah? But 76 was standard?

Love those short covers. I have a plan an a bit of stainless waiting for it to chop up a long cover and build the little "box" around the clutch and rivet it or screw it onto the front section of the long cover. Why?? I dunno lol but just like those shortys and they are hard to get. Then I can build a nice muffler outlet on the 850.
 
I remember buying my first saws back in 1982 (not Macs),& at that point it wasn't mandatory to have chain brakes on a saw.It must've been shortly after that that it became mandatory to have a chain brake on a new saw to be sold.I'd have to say that 90% - 95% of the saws I have are without a brake.
 
Okay, so looking back on some notes on this just on face value. It looks like the 10-10 Autos (Black tops) had a production run from '71 - '75, then under a different serial no. had another run from '75 - '76.

Then came the Pro 10-10 Autos - '75 - '77, which look like they came with the brake as a standard feature, but it still seemed optional.(?)
So more than likely in that overlap, the black tops got fitted with a brake. So probably by mid or late '75 -ish they had them... maybe?

To Jethro and Edju's point, for a time it does seem like brakes were optional... until they weren't.

As I said, It's just at face value. If I'm wrong with any of this, please correct me.

Dunno what year my pro mac 1010 auto is but black top cover and factory brake

Funny enough I've been using the ProMac 800 as part of my work saws lately, and it's been a challenge/ learning curve going from the PM700 . Using the 800 I definitely have to back off on my back cut I've almost cut through 2 hinges in the past couple of weeks, it just flies through the wood and doesn't give any of the feedback that I'm used to with the 700.
The perspective of the people on the parks is funny though, even though I'm using a bigger more powerful saw than the 700 they think that the 700 is just the baddest saw I have because of the exhaust note and idle.
 
It dosen't have a A,B,or C cast into the cylinder? Which denotes the piston that it takes, but unmarked ones take B I believe. Definitely gonna need a picture of the intake.
Not that I can find. I had my uncle look at it also, he thinks its a 700 block. I meant to take a pic of the intake port. I will tomorrow. I got excited and was going to send it out to be rechromed to build an 850 from, but I think is a PM 700 block. Hope I am wrong though.

Just remember that I'm no expert on that series, just some common knowledge. There's experts here though so maybe one will chime in.
Is there an impluse port?
