Agree with what Hoskvarna said as Mark is the educator of all McCulloch information. Definitely a 100 cc plus saw. 740,790,795,797 may get lucky and it be a Super. Highly sought after saw for sure Trent. GL on purchase!!

With these saws you have to buy first, ask questions later.

Gear drive with that color scheme and no compression release (that I can see) indicates it is an 840 or 890. 840 is 99cc, 890 is 103cc so not a lot of difference there. The lack of an automatic oil pump could also mean 1-86 @ 99cc so still right in there.

I have a 48" bar on my 840 and it handles it well.

That saw has an auto oiler but no decompression release lever that I can see. Looks like a 640, 840, or 890. With that bar size I'd say 840 or 890.

That is a cool saw .404 chain?

1/2" pitch chipper. I made up a new chain for that bar just for that project.



The 640 is not the super series engine and so would not have the shroud over the muffler.

Thanks for the 640 info Mark. I've had two and should have remembered that. I know they have the later convex starter cover.

So since my 1-43/Super 250 hybrid has a muffler shroud, that should mean it's a Super 250 and not a 1-43, right?

Both the 1-43 and the Super 250 are shroud-less...the 1-4X saws normally had the cheap round mufflers and the Super 250 has the better version. Either one could have been refit with a stack instead.

If it weren’t for the sticker on the cover, I’d say the 2nd saw was mine! It looks exactly like my frankensaw if mine had a bar and chain.

I have an almost unlimited supply of 17/18/19" hardnose bars and .404 chains to go with them if you'd like to have one to go with your Frank.
