Got a great deal on a 261 about a year ago . Threw a 18” bar and 3/8 chain on it . It doesn’t use much more than a half tank of oil to a whole tank of fuel, the chain is drier than I’d like it to be . I’ve turned the Oiler up all the way . I take the bar and chain off every other time I use it to clean saw dust and crap out of the bar and Oiler holes . Is this a sign that the oil pump is giving up ?

What bar oil do you use? Stihl saws oil lightly, but I find mine do ok with thinner/lighter weight bar oil. Yours sounds a bit more oil stingy than usual, even for Stihl.

Half a tank of oil to a tank of fuel sounds about right. That’s what mine does.

Just make sure that your bar oiler hole is lined up with the supply groove in the bar pad area.

It lined up and clean
