I've got a flowering crabapple that is looking terrible. It's been this way for a few years now. It first started looking bad following a year where it got ravaged by gypsy moth caterpillars, but that's likely a coincidence.
The leaves are sparse and have rust colored spots on them. The bark has a fair amount of moss and lichen (or something) on it, despite the amount of sunshine the tree gets. (See pics below.)
Any thoughts on what could be wrong and whether or not the tree is salvageable?
Thanks,
Chris
