New to this site And I don’t know much about trees unless I’m cutting them down. I would like to save this one but after 4:00 it blocks the sun for my pool. Being in the UP any sun I can get will save on my gas bill. Can someone tell me what kind of tree this is and would it survive if I cut it half way up?

Ash
Yes it will survive, but don't do that. It makes a hazardous tree in the near future.
Unless you want to go up there every autumn and re-top it. Your tree, your call.
I'd remove it and plant a semi-dwarf tree or two.

Kinda looks like Emerald Ash Borer is working on cutting it in half for you. You see how much thinner the foliage at the top is? Likely the result of EAB damage...

I'd remove it and plant another species.

Thank you for the advice guys. Yes, it is definitely much thinner at the top. I will likely take it down and replant.
Great site
