Our cluster of five 20 yr old Norwegian spruces have nickel-sized holes in the bark with white sap oozing out - these have been there for a number of years but four of the trees don't seem to be having a problem. One of the trees now has red areas visible on the trunk where bark has stripped away. (we have a salt-chlorinated swimming pool in the area so hope that has nothing to do with the problem)

Those holes are old branch wounds...where a branch was pruned off and the tree is trying to close the wound.

The red is just some outer bark flaked off...not a problem.

The sap flow in the picture though could be concerning. Maybe something feeding under the bark... Maybe cytospora canker (less common on Norway spruce than Blue, but can still be a problem).
