I have an Oak Tree (Red I think) that is about 12 feet tall but it has a very thin trunk and the long top causes it to lean over and almost touches the ground. I'd like to take some off of the top to lighten things up a bit and hopefully allow it to straighten back up. Any pointerson how to go about pruning this Oak will be helpful. Thanks a bunch!

Pruning a Red Oak during the growing season can pre-dispose it to infection by Oak Wilt. The fungus is vectored to the tree by picnic beetles drawn to fresh wounds. Check with your extension service as to the "activity" of this disease in your area prior to pruning.
