Old saw windup!

Hey all.
Here's the story.
Fired up my pioneer 750.
Hasn't been run for 30 years.
Got lucky and didn't need carb adjustments, just primed and new fuel.
Sounds great and loud!
Revs smooth and high, no load revs up sounding healthy, then seems to get a second wind and jumps rpm and really smooths out like only a 2 stroke can sound.
Such a big saw, couldn't put a load on it in my test log and just ate timber.

Next chapter, tiny by comparison poulan 2000 saw has total carb rebuild.
Adjusting jets and find smooth acceleration finally.
When wot no load, I hear the same sounds.
Smooth acceleration, then as if clears its throat and winds way up and smooths out, almost like too lean.
Question, is this a reed phenomenon?
Should I be fattening up the mix on the 2000 to avoid this?
Or just test in wood instead of no load?

Test in wood! Should be smooth in the cut, and " 4 stroke" out of cut. Some saws have rev limiters, so test in wood is the only option. It's always better to be a little to fat then to lean.

This has been a great ride learning as much as possible about these old saws.
Watched a few good video that really showed me what I am listening for.
Next is to test run my new old stihl 032 and then another pioneer, a 3071.
Which do you all expect to be louder?
