Speaking of bars on Canadien saws....has anyone determined the closest current-production bar mounting pattern to the Canadien bars, like on a 270? They seem to use an obsolete pattern, there are a few that look close enough that you could modify to work, but wondering if anyone has figured ot out already?

I haven’t tried to find a modern bar yet. I am sure there is something close.
Here is the mention of the roller nose in the manual.

There isn't going to be a modern bar considering no saws are currently made with 3/8" studs and haven't been for 30 or 40 years. Oregon had a universal bar mount that was shared with the old Remingtons that would fit. I think a C series Homelite bar would fit as well with minor adjustment. Like the old Poulan sandcast bar, it was unique to the manufacturer.

If my 270 ends up running good Id eventually like to find a .063 gauge bar in a 24-36" length, since currently I just have the original 18" bar. And I'd much rather be able to use .063 gauge .404 chain.

Pretty sure the bar on my 270 started out life as a stihl pattern bar that I filed the slot open/put spacers on the studs and did new oil holes. Its definitely not OEM.

Bought a Canadien 276 got it home cleaned the bar and chain, looks in pretty good condition I think it's the original 36 inch bar 270436. No roller tip. 9/16 Oregon chain. Then I checked the serial # and it's a 385 with a 276 top cover.
Started up and ran it for a min. Looking for a 385 top cover

Beautiful saw. I guess the missing foot hold is a standard feature. Does seem like something that could snag.

Far as the 385 top covers, good luck. They only seem to be found on complete saws. You'll the 2 covers, filter base and filter.

I have 2- 275 1 each 380, 385 and all the foot holds are gone. I will keep watching for those covers and the big PM saws. Would like to find a 271 also

The 271 is one that never seems to pop up. I've only seen one for sale other than mine in the last 10 years and it wasn't as nice.

Hey Guys,

Decided to give the 270 of mine a quick carby rebuild since it looks like it has never been done. And me being stupid and not looking thought everything was going to be ok. When I got the saw it came with a new carby kit. Wellll that's what I thought.
So I pulled the carby apart cleaned everything and then when It cam time to start putting all back together I opened the carby kit bag only to find these were old gaskets and not brand new. So now I have a carby all pulled apart on my work bench in the shed and no gaskets to put it back together.

Can someone tell me what the correct kit is needed so I can put it all back together. The photo supplied is off the bag that came with the chainsaw. Is that the correct numbers ? Can anyone help ?

Cheers

Justin

Based on researching carb kits I'm pretty sure the correct Tillotson kit is a RK-114HL Carb Kit.
Incidentally, I used my Grandfather's 270 to cut up some pieces of 6x6 posts yesterday, I made some carb adjustments and I was amazed how well it is running for 60 year old saw that has never had the case apart.

We aren't as lucky here in the States with finding these Canadien saws, they seem to be much harder to come by. My Grandfather bought my 270 new in 1961.
Good luck with your project!
