I'm attempting to get a Poulan 3750 back to usable status after its owner dropped a tree on it and busted the handle. I was lucky enough to locate a brand new handle/tank assembly but it doesn't have the springs attached and I need to move over the old ones. Problem is, I can't seem to figure out how to get them off. They've got a silver cap with threads for mounting to the saw and an Allen head screw mounting the spring to the handle. The silver head appears to unscrew but I can't stabilize the spring well enough or get a good bite on the cap to unscrew it.

Any suggestions?
