As a poulan collector there's only one other saw I really really really want... an s6000 I know it's made by dolmar but I don't care. Anybody have one, run one, I want to know more about them and how much should I expect to pay for one if I do stumble across one.
I have one but not sure if i want to sell it

I don't know but it looks just like my 6000. The 5500/144 had a different air filter setup and the AF cover had just one screw retaining it in the back.

This is what mine looks like- larger starter housing, different rear handle, manual oiler. Does yours have the manual oiler? Perhaps there were early and late 6000s?

There was an 6000 and a s6000. The 6000 had a rear handle like a 5500. The s6000 has a metal more robust handle

I have a 5500 the air cleaner cove has two tabs the hook in the front and one screw in the back. I need an air filter for it if anyone has one

Yours appears to be a S6000. Same as a Dolmar 153 except that according to the IPL's and the S6000 that I have, used the older 152/144 crankshaft with the larger PTO side shaft.

The manual oilers were optional according to the IPL's.

Very cool Mark- thanks for posting those.

I think I would be more excited to find a 5500 than a 6000. I don't see 5500s around that much.

Well looking some more, I am finding some conflicts on dates. I found 1978 price list showing the S6000 but that has to be a incorrect typo. I still don't know the dates on the 5500 yet and your right the 5500's seem harder to find.
