Poulan on the bench! Well two of them.
What’s the story on the orange colour? Canadien model? She’s a little rough, broken rear handle, maybe get it welded? Chain break is stuck open. Have to see what that’s about. Clean p/c tho and 145 psi.

There's an adjustment screw on the brake to change trip pressure. You don't want it too light or you might get a full throttle surprise. Might be set wrong or missing.

Also the pawls on those series of brakes are very soft and eventually cause the brake to drag.

The trip adjuster is attached to the left end of the horizontal spring and the pawl is attached to the right end.

The brake is in the set position.

I got a poulan 361 saw a while back. The previous owner said he took the advice of the Stihl dealer and ran it at 50:1 with stihl oil. I wonder if has something to do with the failure. Also I can’t seem to find a Allen wrench the right size to fit the bolts on the connecting rod.

Yep, good thing that plenty of those 361 cylinders are still around. Have seen NOS ones for $20 shipped on fleabag. I’d clean that piston up & run it again.

The manual states 16:1 gas mix with SAE 30W oil, but run it at 32:1 with modern 2 cycle oil, as it uses full complement needle bearings.

The Allen size is 9/64” for the con rod bolts.

Regardless, the chrome plating was not bonded very well to the aluminum cylinder wall on that one. Poulan had some issues with their chrome loss around exhaust ports.

Never liked the 50 to 1 and just barely like 40 to 1 , can't afford to smoke a old poulan so I add a extra few drops of oil to the green premix and let it smoke. When I first start a rebuilt I add even more oil. Back in the day I used Bardahl at 32 to 1 and never had a oil failure.
