Hey guys, do any of you have any tips to reduce or eliminate splitting on the ends of your slabs? I was told you can paint the ends and it will slow down the drying and significantly reduce the splitting? Any truth to this and if so any recommendations on paint type?

I use several coats of cheap latex paint - as soon after cutting the log as possible, before slabbing. There are also commercial products that work well. Check the Bailey's website.
Areas that include the pith are more apt to crack. Also, trees that were leaners may have stress built up on one side and can crack.
