Hi guys my splitter is running good. If I run it for a while it occasionally pukes tranny fluid out of the tank cap. I would think if it was overfilled it woulda puked out enough to be where it needs to be by now. I can hold my hand on the tank as long as I want so the fluid isn’t too hot. Does the fluid expand that much when it gets up to temp?

check the line tightness at the spool valve! mine did the same thing when new and the line was not tight enough... sucking air foamed the fluid …. Teflon the joints and no more problems!

I’ll check. I know there’s no Teflon on the threads but it has actual hydraulic hose at that point with the proper fittings. Maybe that’s my problem? Why would it only happen after it’s running a while? Unfortunately it’s supposed to rain all day tomorrow. Although a day away from the woodpile might not be a bad idea my hands are killing me.

Check pump suction connections. Can suck air in but not leak oil out.
Make sure the return line is under fluid level. May be low oil or return pipe may have broken off inside.
Pump shaft seal is harder to check, using grease around the shaft.

Mine will do that if it's full after it gets warm. Have you added oil lately? Is it level try to keep the lean if any away from the cap.

Ok I put Teflon on the return line coming off the valve and tried splitting. As usual it was fine for twenty mins or so then it started puking. More I used it the more often and worse it got. There’s no way it’s overfill at this point. The fluid hardly got warm. It was cold out and I didn’t even split an hour. I could easily hold my hand in the tank.

When I cleaned it up to put it away I started inspecting the hoses and fittings. I found an abrasion on the line running from the pump to the valve. Looks like it’s been rubbing on a bracket. You can see in the pic it’s worn down to the white braiding stuff. Would this be able to suck in air? I should have took the line off but I didn’t. I’ll take it off tomorrow and try to get it replaced.

From pump to valve is a pressure line. Not going to suck air from there. Hose is still good, but get it away from bracket before it makes it any worse.

Ok thanks. Other then tightening the clamps on the suction lines what else should I do? Should I eliminate the filter setup and just run direct to the tank from the valve? I still got a huge pile of trees I gotta chr and split so I gotta get this bad boy figured out asap.

Return line is positive pressure ( just a few psi across the filter.) won’t suck there. Has to be suction side, or shaft seal, or returning fluid into tank up above the fluid level.

Is there anyway to test those places for an air leak? It was puking when it was full too so I know it’s not below level. Thank you

i think someone mentioned this, but is the machine sitting 'level'? if i have a tad of a lean toward the filler cap it will spew oil. if i prop the cap side wheel up just a tad, or make sure it's good and level, no more leak.

exactly. hence pic of fill cap. is it level roughly, and in center or on one end? might extend cap up but if not level, fluid gets to that point.
if aeration then whole different issues TBD.

I’ll take pics tomorrow it’s crappy outside now. I’ve had this splitter probably 12-15 years and this has never been an issue before. It’s not puking up a tiny bit. It’s quite a lot of fluid. I don’t think it’s a out of level issue.

Well it seems good now. I ran it probly two hours. It puked once right off the bat but it was probably over full. One of the clamps wasn’t as tight as the other on the suction line. I did that for the hell of it I put a cement block under the tire to tilt the level of the fluid away from the cap. It was actually angled towards me some. Thanks for the help guys.
