we have a red elm that has died and the bark is starting to fall off. it is straight for about 20 ft. and close to 36" in dia. we were wondering if that log would be worth anything and if so how much, is it too dry? or should we just use it for fire wood.

thanks,
matt

Very small amounts of red elm around here so cant help with value for saw logs. It is darned fine firewood, I know that.

I'd burn it. Then again If I didnt heat with wood I would spend 400 a month on propane. So to me firewood is valuable, especially when its free.

All I can say is that red oak makes darn good firewood. Wish I could find more.
