Hey guys. I was given an old Stihl with the badging missing or worn off. The serial number is 112979956. Does this tell the model and date? If so can you please help me out?

Look at the number on the parts on it and google.Hey guys. I was given an old Stihl with the badging missing or worn off. The serial number is 112979956. Does this tell the model and date? If so can you please help me out?
Also, I said "from outside the U.S.", meaning that the unit was sold/distributed outside the U.S., not manufactured.Stihl serial numbers do not contain any part numbers or saw series numbers, as some here suggest. There is no inherent coding of date or model in the serial number. Stihl serial numbers are sequential for world wide production. The first number in a serial number is the country code of manufacture though. The first serial number in your saw being a "1" means it was made in Germany. All I can tell you. If the first serial number was a '2' it was made in the USA.
It doesn't come up. What country are you in?Hi Guys could someone help me identify this saw? 114994299
