I am not familiar with the current Oregon chain line. They used to have a 3/8 pitch chain that had smaller cutters than the 72 chain. I believe in was call 76 series chain. It allowed you to run, say a 20" bar on a 45 cc saw and not load down as with full 3/8 chain.

Is there still a product like that out there?

I know one can run .325, but then the sprocket nose and drive sprocket become an issue.

Howdy,

The 76 - 77 chain has been discontinued I believe due to lack of market success. (It was the first attempt to reduce kickback of the chisel cutter, and was not the best design). I believe the Vanguard chain is supposed to replace it. I would not expect this one to set the world on fire either!

For saws in that size range, I would suggest .325 chisel chain.
