Soft Insulating or Hard Firebrick?

I need to replace some broken bricks in my Regency i3100 insert. I'm a bit confused, should I buy soft insulating firebrick (which supposedly absorb little heat) or the hard ones (structural?)?

Or doesn't a fireplace "care" which type is used?
