I wondered the same thing. There were experimental copters late in the war but I don't think any that could have hauled the materiel to that site.

They aren't sure how long the helipad has been there or how it was built.
    I'll keep looking. lol
They sailed to the base and drilled and put pins in and Mountain style climbing to the top as there were no helicopters then.

This is what happens when your GPS map is ten years out of date.

"Igor Sikorsky and the world's first mass-produced helicopter, the Sikorsky R-4, 1944"

I think that the lighthouse was built the hard way. The Helipad came much later, I am sure.

The British invasion of Iceland was a mixed blessing to the native people. Trade with Britain improved and unemployment went way down. They were effectively liberated from the King of Denmark, never a popular topic for them. But they also had to put up with the British, which meant a surplus of war babies. So many, in fact, that they had a special surname for fatherless children from that time era.

They do know that people sailed to the bottom and moutaineered to the top.
They do not even know when the helipad was added.

    So yeah. Helicopters weren't used.

Can't see what the rest of her looks like, but if she lived with me and kept those toenails, she'd have to look pretty dang good.
