    We have them here too, they are mostly in the Sacramento Valley, but they hang around our pond in the summer and spring. They have a very distinct call.

    Watched this happen from a hill about 10 miles away, my dad worked at the other end of the railyard from where the cars started exploding, about 2 miles away! Blew out every window for about 3 square miles.....Google trainyard explsionAntelope , Calif.those are 250# bombs headed for Vietnam!

    yeah the old 1980ies type truck mounted booms can be crappy,, the new 2000 plus gears pretty dang good high cost and high maintenance but..

    this Italian one was great the Kg it lifted then took out full 10m reach saved the day

    this log weighed in at 2 metric tons your 4000 pounds,, oh its OZ hardwood timber so add 30% weight per cubic thumbnail_IMG_20190710_084239.jpg

    I neighbor of a friend knew I had a mill and offered me 3 eight foot logs from a big Dawn Redwood. The knuckle boom on the truck extended 30+ feet. The climber put a choker on the top, dropped down 8', cut it off and set it in my dump trailer, repeat 2 more times. He had all 3 logs on the trailer in about 15 minutes. Made me wish we had one back when I was still working with Dad. We did so much high end residential work where you couldn't drive a truck on the lawns, he didn't see buying one as useful.
