I was checking out splitters today, I noticed a few half beam models out there, anybody have one or know what purpose they serve? Is it just a cost savings?

Cost savings would be my guess. Like everything else, steel prices have risen in the last couple decades.
That was my guess too, weird thing is the half beam models weren’t a whole lot cheaper. I wonder if they hold up as well or if the long term performance of the unit suffers.

depends on cylinder mount.

closed end pin needs a beam there to mount and take force.

trunnion or face mount near seal area doesnt need full beam.

depending on design, the shorter beam might have less deflection.

cylinder choice is a tradeoff of higher cyl cost vs. saving cost of steel, saving weight, and shorter overall length.

most use closed end pin mount because the cylinders need less machining, thus more choice of vendors.

main thing i would watch for is that no bending forces go through the rod bushing and seal area. cyl must be free to align or the life is reduced a lot.

Cost savings do not equal consumer savings. They equal increased profits.

I would personally stay away from the half beam models. I have seen them break around the mount.
