Stacking VS Piling

Why not try both methods for yourself?
I have both piles and stacks.
The piles are there because I don't have time to stack them yet.
Air flow is crucial.
Stacks without space between them will get moldy and won't dry.
That's opposite of curing. More like fermenting.

Stacking takes more time and labor but the pay off is better for me.
Customers like to see a neat wood lot with nice measured stacks so they can see exactly what they are getting. Plus they dry better and season better.

Pilling, would work for short time storage if you keep the piles small.

Mass production may be better to just pile because it may not stay there very long.

I hate stacking. I can find little to no difference in drying time between stacking and just piling the stuff up.

Piling is a PITA come January when the snow has drifted 4' up the pile and ya gotta dig through the frozen splits however.

Stacking is easier to "Unstack" than a pile is to "Unpile" is what I'm getting at.

Stay safe!
